2. Q. What is considered tobacco use? A. Most companies consider any form of tobacco use including nicotine patches or gum to constitute tobacco use. There are a few companies that consider occasional cigar use to be non-tobacco. This usually requires a nicotine-free HOS.
3. Q. Can I fax the check with the faxed app? A. Yes, then mail the original applications including the check, agent report, and the Temporary Insurance Agreement to us. In the mean time we can start the underwriting process while we wait for the “snail mail”.
4. Q. Who schedules the paramed exam? A. You can or we can. Just let us know. We generally schedule exams through Portamedic via their web site. If you schedule the paramed for telemed apps, make sure you let the paramed service know that they should only do labs, vitals (height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse), and any other tests that are required by the company.
5. Q. The client just had a check-up with their doctor. Can we use this exam and lab work? A. Generally, no. The exam done by the doctor doesn’t always have the same information required by the Underwriter. Also, insurance companies usually test for nicotine, HIV, and screen for drug use while the doctor may not. However, if an EKG is required and you can obtain a copy of a recent one done by their Doctor, it is generally acceptable. Sometimes exams and lab work from another company may be acceptable as long as they aren’t too old and can be obtained by the client. Keep in mind that while requirements are similar, they can vary from company to company.
